Ten Reviews

I am not new to writing, but I am new to marketing and promoting. Like many of us writers, I love the former and despise the latter. My palms are sweaty even as I write this. It makes me unduly nervous. Still, it must be done, and for me I need a simple goal to shoot for: 10 reviews.

More experience authors might read this and smile bemused. Of course, I doff my proverbial chapeaux to your successes, and I remind you we all have to start somewhere.

I have reviews, on GoodReads among other places, and scattered elsewhere across the web; I am meaning something more specific: 10 reviews on Amazon.

This seems to be an almost magical number. A point where the casual browser might stumble across your book to sit up and take notice— bloggers and reviewers as well. Ten reviews is a nice round number. I might be deluding myself, or at least bitten off more than I can chew. It’s not just the one book I have, there are nine published now… and, if I were good at math, I’d say I am really looking for 90 reviews at least. Hopes and dreams... and a long way to go.

My first amazon review for Sand City

Yay... a rave review from amazon KDP!
5 STARS for SAND CITY

Thank you, who ever you are!

Sand City Murders by M.K. Alexander brilliantly combines Mystery and Science Fiction. In the off-season seaside town of Sand City, Patrick Jardel, a local journalist becomes embroiled in a string of murders. The plot takes a fascinating twist from the usual murder mystery with the arrival of Tractus Flynn, a time-traveling detective.

Alexander has invented a unique and plausible form of time-travel which adds a powerful complexity to the story. Sand City Murders does equal justice to both the mystery and SF components of the story. The writing is both taut and humorous; while the setting is so real you can smell the fish-stick factory! Alexander does justice to the myriad of residents of Sand City providing a rich background and texture to the story.

Highly recommend this story to fans of both genres. This book deserves a wide audience and there is the hint of more to come. I can't wait to see where this goes in the future (or is it the past? Time-travel can be a bit confusing...)

Sand City Homages

Inside this novel are many, many homages to the great detectives of all time, and to some of the wonderful time travelers of popular culture... Some references are extremely subtle, some rather blatant... They are identified by name, place or creator. See if you can find them all!

Long time no sea

Haven't posted in ages it seems. I've been living in Sand City, a fictional place, and there is no wifi. Apologies!

Well it's finally done, my fourth novel, SAND CITY. An amazing piece of work, I dare to say! It's off at the editors/readers so I'm looking to publish in about two weeks.

Oh yeah, the blurb:
A failing newspaper, a summer resort town, and a time traveling detective named Tractus Fynn. And murder of course."

Rumor has it Tractus Fynn will be starting his own twitter feed, to answer questions about how exactly he does travel in time... He sent me his passport photo at least.

New Book

Just completed the first draft of my new book, Sand City.
A murder mystery with the indomitable Detective Inspector Tractus Fynn.
It's a typical whodunnit with a slight twist: DCI Fynn is a time traveler.

Now... if I could only make my mind up about which cover to use...

Scheduled for publication in mid-July.
